No matter who you are, no matter your life circumstances, food is an important need. For the guests who stay at the Waikato Men’s Shelter—Te Whare Korowai Taangata o Kirikiriroa—in Hamilton it’s a need they can struggle to fill. They’re hungry.
Enter Hazel Hayes Catering: they paid-it-forward $500 worth of food to the Waikato Men’s Shelter. This was enough for a delicious buffet-style meal to feed 100 of the guests, filling them up with salads, various meats including chicken drumsticks, breads and drinks. These guys were rapt to be dining in style while staying at the Shelter.
Joanne from the Men’s Shelter said that everyone (both workers and guests) were so grateful for the meal and for Hazel Hayes’ generosity. It’s acts of love and kindness like this that can mean so much to the men in their care.
The Men’s Shelter aims to provide safe emergency and transitional housing and support to homeless single adults. Many of the men have various issues and needs, so the Shelter also gives them support in other ways, such as help with addictions and figuring out life after coming out of prison. Some of these guys have experienced severe trauma, so life can be a struggle. Kindness, such as that from Hazel Hayes, means a lot.
Want to support Hazel Hayes and pay-it-forward while you’re at it? Hazel Hayes is used to catering for large numbers of people because that’s what they do best. They can do scrumptious eats for weddings, office parties, high teas, birthdays and even Christmas dinners, all organised with the touch of a few buttons and delivered to your door!
