Master Kong (in Mount Maunganui) are known for their “kick-ass” Asian street food, and for good reason. You’ll find delights like Wagyu Beef Tataki (beef at its best), Soju (rice wine) Cured Salmon and Tofu Sashimi (if meat is not your thing) when you visit them.

But did you know they “kick-ass” at generosity too? They believe in helping those in the community. So, to put their ideals where their skills are, they paid-it-forward 30 of their meals to Kura Kai.

Kura Kai is a charitable trust who are focused on helping rangatahi (young people) do well at school by providing them and their whanau with nutritious and delicious meals. To do this they put chest freezers in secondary schools, which volunteers stock (including businesses like Master Kong) stock. This means meals are readily on hand to give to students who are in need of kai.

To help Master Kong pay-it-forward, their partner Mount Main Street supplemented their generosity, so more meals could be made for the students in need.

If you, too, want to be part of the action and also sample these Asian delights, why not head to Master Kong at 217 Maunganui Road at the Mount? You can also be part of the pay-it-forwards while you’re there, adding even just a small extra to your bill to play your part in caring for our rangatahi.
