Pampering & empowering women in need

As GoGenerosity has evolved, we have seen that meeting the needs of New Zealanders is about far more than just food, clothing and housing. There is a huge amount of need in other places too, for example the large gap in dental care for the average Kiwi, providing appliances that keep homes warm and dry and basics like cleaning products for people to keep their homes clean and germ free.

If you're new to our community or a first time reader, what you may not yet understand is that GoGenerosity gives businesses a way for their customers to pay-it-forward at the point of sale to produce and distribute goods and services for their favourite local charities. This model allows businesses and their customers to be part of making a difference in their local community in a sustainable way.

One of our early business partners was Amelia Jonck, from Features Inc in Buretta, Tauranga. Her passion for local people in need and her generous customer base, has meant that the Features Inc team have quickly been able to pool enough money to give away a number of treatments and pampering experiences for homeless women. Once there was enough money in their pay-it-forward pool, the Features Inc team asks their charity partner, Under the Stars, to identify the deserving local woman. From there GoGenerosity took care of co-ordinating the appointment and making sure it goes smoothly.

What we've  discovered through the generosity of Features Inc and their customers has blown us away. Where we've always thought meeting the need was mostly about the basics, this first Features Inc pay-it-forward experience has opened our eyes to another level of need.

Three homeless ladies visited Features inc in early March to receive eyebrow treatments and facials. Although nervous, the ladies quickly became comfortable as they shared, "we were not treated differently to anyone else." A real testament to the kindness of the Features Inc team and something that made us so proud to have them as a partner. What really amazed us though was the feedback from one of the ladies after her treatment, " I'm 50 years old and I have never been touched in a health way. This experience gave me a confidence I've never had and a sense of dignity that made me feel like I'm equal."

This single statement sums up why we do what we do. While paying-it-forward helps meet basic needs, it also gives people in need a sense of dignity that makes them feel equal. This single experience is life changing and our mission is to provide more of these experiences to not only help local people survive, but thrive.
