One of our favourite stories in May 2022 came from the generosity of Z Energy Bay of Plenty, their customers and corporate partners.

Z Energy paid forward $500 of fuel vouchers to Age Concern, who then gifted them to a lady who runs workshops to keep older people in the Kawerau and Whakatane community active.

As well as helping older locals keep active, these classes help create a community space for older people to meet and connect. Health and companionship are critical for older people, in fact Loneliness NZ statistics show that over 71.6% of people over 75 feel lonely on a regular basis.

So how does your generosity at the pump help? The fuel vouchers help the lady to travel to these workshops and transport the gear she needs to put them on. She does this awesome work without ever expecting anything in return, so this fuel helps her ease the financial cost and enables her to do more of these workshops in more locations in the future.

This is heartbreaking to think that older New Zealanders aren't able to connect the way they would like, but so encouraging that local legends are taking care of older people. Thanks to Age Concern NZ, last year 91.7% of their clients reported feeling less lonely and thanks to your generosity older people in Kawerau and Whakatane are able move, connect and feel less lonely.
