An amazing story that has come from The Atrium's Koha dinner is about a family of 11 who had never eaten out together before. Thanks to the generosity of others they got to sit down and enjoy a restaurant quality meal together for the first time.
Before GoGenerosity 'needs' in my mind were always food, clothing and shelter, which is definitely true. But since being involved with GoGenerosity "needs' have come to mean so much more. I now realise what a massive difference a subtle change can make. This is very relevant to the Koha dinners, as people attending receive restaurant quality meals that not only feed them, but give them a sense of dignity through the experience. Being treated the same as anyone else and made to feel equal boosts confidence and brings a sense of dignity.
It was a special moment for this family of 11 to be able to sit down and enjoy an amazing meal together without the parents having to worry about what they were going to put on the table that night. Not only did this meal leave them full, but it left a memory that will stick with the family for a life time.
So I just want to say, "Thank you! Your generosity is causing a huge boost to people's self-esteem. Giving them a sense of dignity and restoring lost confidence. It's a privilege to be involved in giving local people in need a hand up from their situation, rather than just a 'hand out'."
