Self-care is important. For some, this can mean getting enough sleep, having “me” time or eating healthy food. For others, though, it can mean fleeing from domestic abuse to care for themselves and their children.
Unfortunately this is much more common than you’d think. Did you know that about one-third of New Zealand women experience physical or sexual abuse from their partner? And that doesn’t include those who don’t report their incidents.
This is where Tauranga Women’s Refuge and Support Services comes in. They believe that all women and children have a fundamental right to live free from fear and violence, especially in their own homes. The Refuge is a real refuge for those needing safety and security.
To help provide care in a vulnerable time, SELF_ Mount Skin Community paid-it-forward a 60-minute facial (worth $150) for one of the Tauranga Women’s Refuge’s guests.
These facials provide a way to have some “me” time, being pampered and massaged and made to feel special and loved.
You, too, can experience these facials and other skin treatments at SELF_— by visiting them at 321 Maunganui Road, Mount Maunganui.
This paid-forward care was made possible by SELF_, their generous customers, and their corporate partner First Mortgage Trust. Together they’re helping the women in our community who need self care the most.
When you're at SELF_, self-caring for yourself, think about adding to the bill to be part of the paying-it-forward too. Whether it’s 50 cents or $50, it all adds up to support those in need.
Here’s how generous people just like you have made a difference to local people in need.
