Did you know that about 1 in 3 New Zealand women suffer physical or sexual abuse from their partners with even more suffering psychological and emotional abuse? These numbers feel even more daunting when you realise that many instances of abuse go unreported. A home should be a place of refuge and safety, but unfortunately for these women and their children it’s not always.
The Tauranga Women’s Refuge is a safe place for these women and kids to come to, even for a short time. It is a haven where they can rest, heal and plan for their future. We all have a right to live without the fear of violence in our homes, and The Tauranga Women’s Refuge’s aim is to uphold this right.
Part of caring for these women and their kids is feeding them, so The Tauranga Women’s Refuge were very grateful when Love Rosie, a Tauranga-based bakery and café, paid-it-forward 20 meals that could be served to the Refuge’s guests.
Spark Business Hub Bay of Plenty, with bases in Tauranga and Rotorua, were the corporate partner to Love Rosie, topping up the cafe’s customer pay-it-forwards with a monetary donation. This helps Love Rosie provide more meals to Tauranga Women’s Refuge than they could otherwise.
You can help with the giving to The Tauranga Women’s Refuge by adding a little to your bill when treating yourself and your loved ones at Love Rosie. With their Chelsea Buns, Lamingtons and Custard Squares, it’s well worth the visit! Plus, there are a number of Tauranga women and kids who’ll thank you for it.
Here’s how generous people just like you have made a difference to local people in need.
